Bronze Medal Winners

Rolex Miami OCR Racing summary: In a thrilling conclusion to the Paralympic racing, US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics’ Salty Sister Jen French and JP Creignou earned a bronze medal in the SKUD-18 class.  The US Paralympic SailingTeam will compete at the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Regatta, scheduled for Aug. 31-Sept. 5, 2012 in Weymouth/Portland, England.

Ahoy Salties! It’s good to be back. Vicki Posner gave Nancy two letters, one from the Salvation Army, Sally House, thanking us for donations. The other one is from the Christmas Toy Shop. They also thanked us for our donation.

We had very light winds today. Prams and Ideals had one race each. We will try to have the same groups next Wednesday, February 8th. Then on February 15th  we’ll have Education on racing rules.

Carol Hansen’s brother passed away on Jan. 30 after a long illness. His Obituary can be found at  this Link
Her father has had surgery Thursday and he is in critical condition.

FWSA: NANCY STRITE
We have some awards today. Tove and Martha went to Sarasota to sail in the Interclub. Too much wind and too much current so Tove and Martha decided with those conditions they wouldn’t sail. They deserve charms. 
Nancy is asking for one more Pram sailor for next Tuesday at Davis Island.
Salties will host an Interclub on February 28th. Nancy is looking for sailors and race committee for that day.
Remember the Championship on May 18th. Nancy needs sailors to sign up.
The Young Woman Sailor of the Year award applications are now being received.

Tove and Martha received charms. Jane Hubben received her ‘09 disk charm. Diane  Kathy reminded us that she has “8” inch silver bracelets for our charms if anyone is interested.

CRUISE: CHARLOTTE HOFMANN
There will be a cruise to the Panama Canal Museum at 7985 113th Street, Suite 100 in Seminole on Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 at 10:30. The cost is $3:00. Lunch, which will follow the tour, at the Greek Village and Deli at 1125 Park Blvd., Seminole Mall. There will be more information in the next few weeks.

SOCIAL: SUSAN HUFFMardi Gras Party at
A Mardi Gras Party will be on February 15th @ 11:30am. We are now the Crewe of Salty Sisters and will celebrate Mardi Gras! Each table will create a shoebox float. There will be prizes for the best float and costumes to go with your float or table. Beads, pearls, feathers and masks can be used. Madge Lavoy provided a book with sample floats. Martha Metcalf modeled Mardi Gras attire!
"Laissez les bon temps rouler!" Let the good times roll.

JEN FRENCH UPDATE
Diane Fowler reported on Jen French and JP’s racing results in Miami. “They did it! They did it!”, she began.
They have a tough schedule ahead with regattas, practice and boatwork. The SPYC is helping them and Olympic Star Class sailor, Mark Mendleblatt, as well. A benefit is being planned. Thanks for well wishes. Jen and JP really need money, so make a tax-deductible donation. Now’s the time! The sailing venue takes place in Weymouth, UK, where sailing is challenging and the temperature is cool.
They will begin August 29th and end September 9th. 

CHAR DOYLE: Last week was Master Driver Two on Two Race. You had to be age 45 or older to sail in the competition. Six teams sailed 45 races. Each team sailed 15 races. There were 3 Round Robins. Char told us of the exciting “encounters” during the race with several of the competing clubs. Final results were 1,Texas Corintian; 2, New York Yacht Club; 3, American Yacht Club; 4, Southern Yacht Club. SPYC was fifth. St. Francis Yacht Club was sixth. SPYC won 6 of the 15 races.

GLORIA DAVIS invited interested Salties to go en masse with the SPYC to a baseball game at Al Lang Field (Canada vs. the Netherlands) in the National World Champion Competition on Tuesday evening March 6, 2012; meet first at SPYC at 5:30 PM for appetizers/goodies followed by a walk to nearby Lang Field at 7PM…cost is $25.00 per person.

Shelia reminded us that stores has green, purple and gold shirts for Mardi Gras for the perfect start to our costumes to compliment pans, skirt, beads. There are also  red shirts for Valentines Day. Karen said jewelry is the perfect color for Valentines Day, silver or gold. Tell your special beau! Some of the necklaces are only $10 a piece.

  The subject is feeling older. Jan had some funny comparisons of what was said when we were younger in 1972 and how we said it later in 2003.
