CAPTAIN: NANCY SHIVERS greeted members at the first luncheon meeting for 2012. Due to our expanding membership we dined in the Waterfront Room with the spectacular view of the SPYC Marina and Tampa Bay.
Co-Captain Sandy is spending a wee bit more time in Scotland.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: included an additional thank-you to those who made the Christmas party a success as well as the fact that $3,409.00 had been collected at the party for various charities. One of our charities, the Free Clinic, extended an invitation to an Appreciation Dinner at Ovation…it was uncertain if they realized the Salties number more than 200 sisters! Contact Captain Nancy for the specifics regarding time and type of attire if you are interested in attending.
Kathy Ahern covering for Sandy, reported 36 Sisters showed up for sailing on what was a near record-breaking cold day. In lieu of sailing the Sisters watched DVDs on sailing skills. Kathy reported a new Pram series will begin next week on January 11 and that some skippered Ideals will also sail.
The Ideal series will be for Skipper's only. Those who haven't yet earned their "Skippers Hat" may sail prams or help with race committee during this series.
Vicky Posner graciously thanked Sisters for their supportive calls and cards while she was ill.
Sigrid Lovfald invited Sisters to send her sailing or event photos for Smooth Sailing.
Linda Testa has updated roster inserts for those who did not receive them at the Christmas party; if you are in need of this information e-mail her of give her a call.
Roslyn Beckoff reported on the many birthdays of Sisters born in both December and January.

Our own Char-Nel Doyle will be the speaker on “Team Racing.” Nancy also reported that the firs Interclub event will be on January 26 in Sarasota with 20’s and Prams.
EDUCATION: Maridell Weaver expanded on the DVDs shown in place of sailing today including a review of the infamous Right of Way Rule 18 Rounding a Mark and Obstructions as well as basic sailing rules. Jim from the Sailing Center reported on the nine new Ideals now available as well as rigging differences and tips for improved handling of these vessels.
SOCIAL: Karen Lieberman and Sheila Moore reported that STORES has fantastic after- Christmas sale items (some including a bottle or glass of SS wine!). With Valentine’s Day just around the corner they also tempted us with pending spring delights. They reported the recent special Christmas shopping event for Briny Brothers was a big success as the guys loved items being packed and gift wrapped for them to pick up at their leisure.
CRUISE: Charlotte Hofmann
