Annual Meeting
Nancy Vildibill led us in the Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance.
She did a beautiful reading of “Crossing the Bar” in memory of Hope Corson, Edie Pace, Betty Resener, Pat Watters, and Cheri Wright. The bell was tolled by Kathy Mansir for those who passed away this year.
CAPTAIN'S REPORT ─ CHARL HADFIELD
Charl Hadfield announced “polls closed”, welcomed everyone to the 60th Annual Meeting and recognized the 22 Former Captains in attendance.
Charl said this past year was the most thrilling, stimulating time of her life and thanked those who encouraged her, Peggy Lonnon, Carole Bardes and Gloria Davis. She will be just fine being a “regular”Salty.
Three Salties were recognized for their memberships of 50 years: Ardith Rutland, Erni Mittermayr, who offered some wise sailing advice , and DC Stevenson
The Spirit Trophy was awarded to Betty Proper. She best exemplifies these qualities: contribution to the social aspect of sailing, good sportsmanship, leadership, organization, motivation, involvement and attendance. Betty joined the Salty Sisters in 1983. She was elected to the Board 4 times and has served on numerous committees. She is an avid sportswoman who enjoys cycling, skiing, tennis and swimming. She has an infectious smile and warmly welcomes and encourages new Saltys.
Ginny Daniels was awarded the Optimist Memorial Trophy in memory of Elizabeth Priestly. Ginny best exemplifies Betsy’s spirit of eternal optimism in achieving personal goals through exceptional character. Ginny has endured 7 major surgeries after being struck by a car a few years ago. She continues to volunteer in any way she can to help the organization. Ginny accepted her trophy without using her cane to walk to and from the podium.
Commodore Vargas spoke briefly and was presented a check for the National Sailing Hall of Fame Fund.
CO-CAPTAIN'S REPORT─ NANCY SHIVERS
Nancy Shivers presented the Amy Joyce Uhler Race Management Trophy to Vicki Posner. This trophy is awarded to the Salty Sister who has contributed the most to race management.
Nancy thanked the 78 sailors who participated in races this year. She listed many special races and activities and the Saltys who were always there to give her help and support.
SECRETARY: Vicki Posner thanked Linda Testa for taking on the job of editing and printing the handbook, calendar and roster, a huge undertaking.
TREASURER: Beth Pennington reported the balance in the Treasury and noted all bills have been paid.
AWARDS: Bonnie Rohrbaugh reported awarding 73 Salty Sister Charms, 123 FWSA Charms and 73 Annual Meeting Charms.
MEMBERSHIP: Trisha Birkenstock announced the membership at 208 active members with 33 being life members, meaning they have been members for 30+ years. Four Salty Sisters were awarded their 30 year pin: Tove Kullman, Kathy Mendelblatt, Rosie Jewell, and Ramona Updegraff.
EDUCATION: Maridell Weaver presented the new Class of 2010: Tricia Billings, Carol Jurca, Rose Linderman-Worlein, Gina Bowden-Pierce, and Renee´ Athey.

CRUISE: Connie Smith scheduled 10 events for the past year and hosted the Annual Pool Party at her home.
HISTORIAN: Joy Wissing presented Captain Charl with a yearbook and referred to the interesting history boards with years of memorabilia for all to enjoy.
HOSPITALITY: Kathy Mansir announced sending 212 Birthday cards, 28 Get Well cards and 12 Sympathy cards with 3 for Briny Brothers. A thank-you was given to Jack Koch for designing the Salty’s birthday card.
PROTEST: Pat Seidenspinner noted that only one request for redress was requested this year.
SKIPPER’S HAT: Kathy Bush will remain as Chair for the coming year. No new Skipper’s Hats awarded. The Maggie Mug will be the only regatta scheduled.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Lisa Avila did an excellent job of taking group photos and candid shots and received her charm.
WEBMASTER: Maridell Weaver will continue to do the web page with the help of Carol Hansen and work with a committee of scribes, photographers, etc.
SOCIAL: Karen Leiberman and Sheila Moore finished off the year with a slide show of this year’s 9 parties and birthday celebrations. They thanked Charl for allowing them to use their creativity.
STORES: Susan Huff and Kathy Ahern thanked the Saltys for supporting them this past year.
TELEPHONE: Linda Salverson presented the much anticipated poem of the year with her prop assistant Fran Stevens.
ARCHIVIST: Barbara Watson maintains a database of 684. She will display the Salty Sisters charms in the lobby display case for the next week.
ALLISON JOLLY: Susan Wallace noted that 35 girls from 10 clubs participated in this year’s race. Thanks to 36 Salty volunteers and 12 Briny Brothers and to Hazel Hough, the Salty Sisters and Sail Laser for donations which kept the cost to half of what other regattas charge.
RAINBOW: Barbara Arnold reported that only 1 race was sailed by the Sunfish and none by the prams due to weather conditions and thanked her committee
COMEDIAN: Jan Hunter gave us some old age one liners
FWSA: Charms were awarded to 1st and 2nd Delegates and 7 Salty Sisters who serve on the FWSA Board, led by Gloria Davis, President.
Fay Baynard was praised for her work on the SPYC Board of Directors
The retiring Board Members for the Salty Sisters are Kathy Ahern, Brooke Tolliver, Tove Kullman and Bonnie Rohrbaugh. Present Board Members are Nina Glover, Carol Hansen and Janet Walker.
The newly elected officers are Captain Nancy Shivers, Co-Captain Sandy Ripberger, Secretary Vicki Posner, Treasurer Carol Hansen and Awards Kathy Ahern.
New Board Members are Kathy Bush, Kathy Remke and Nancy Strite. Since Carol Hansen has been elected Treasurer, she may not continue as a Director. Her position will be filled by a decision of the Board at the November meeting.
Captain Charl presented the gavel to New Captain Nancy Shivers along with pins to Nancy and new Co-Captain Sandy Ripberger.
Thanks again to Social for a great year.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The Salty Sisters Craft Show and Sale will be on Nov. 16. This will be merchandise made by the Salties and to be purchased by the Salties. It is not open to the entire yacht club.
SPYC Board: Bob Birkenstock, Bob Fillingham and John Jennings, all relatives of Salty Sisters, are running for the Board. Elections will be held on Oct. 11, and voting can be done between 11:30-7:30 with the Annual Meeting following at 7:45.
